This final episode of 2022 is a compilation of highlights from 12 of the most meaningful and impactful conversations that I’ve had over the past 12 months. As I’ve written in years past, putting this annual episode together is equal parts exciting and impossible. It’s a real treat to revisit all of the amazing exchanges I’ve had for this podcast but it’s a tough task to choose 12 that stood out above the rest. The honest-to-God truth is that they’re all pretty special otherwise I wouldn’t have shared them in the first place. Each and every person that’s been gracious enough to give me an hour or two of their time has taught me, inspired me, entertained me, moved me, or changed me in some way—and it’s my hope that they’ve done the same for anyone who has taken the time out of their day to listen in on our conversations. This year’s “best of” lineup, in order of episode release date, are: Bolota Asmerom, Luis Grijalva, Amy Leedham, Phil Shin, Nell Rojas, Tommy Rivs, Jinghuan Liu Tervalon, Tommie Runz, Peter Gilmore, Alison Mariella Désir, Chris Mosier, and Marielle Hall

On that note, this is the last episode of the morning shakeout podcast for a few months. As I wrote in last week’s issue, the podcast is going into hibernation for a little while and will re-emerge sometime in the spring of 2023. The wheels are already turning as to how I can bring some new energy to it in the new year, so please stay subscribed to the show wherever you get your audio.

Finally, whether you’re a devoted listener or only tune in when a particular guest catches your interest, please know that it means a lot to me. Listening to these conversations is a commitment and I don’t take your time and attention for granted. This podcast has been a huge part of my life and the lives of so many of you for the past five years and I’m incredibly grateful for the continued interest, support, and enthusiasm around it. THANK YOU.

This episode is brought to you by:

— New Balance. I rely on different shoes for different types of runs and workouts throughout the year. TheFreshFoam X 1080 v12 is the shoe I run most of my miles in and it holds up week in and week out. It’s packed with cushioning without sacrificing responsiveness. The FuelCell Rebel v3 is my go-to go-fast shoe for tempo runs, track workouts, and interval sessions on the road. Lightweight and low-to-the-ground, it’s snappy and super fun to run in. And finally, the soon-to-be released FuelCell SC Elite v3 is my go-to shoe for race day. It’s a next-level racing shoe with a carbon fiber plate and plenty of lightweight foam underfoot for a cushioned yet responsive ride. All of these are (or soon will be) available at your favorite run specialty retail store or on newbalance.com.

— Precision Fuel & Hydration. Precision Fuel and Hydration makes the best fueling and hydration products for training and racing, and they also provide invaluable education for endurance athletes at all levels. We recently held a webinar on fueling and hydration for marathons and ultras, and they’ve also posted articles about carbohydrate needs and how to train your gut to take in more fuel, all of which I’ve linked to in the show notes for this episode. Also be sure to check out their Fuel & Hydration Planner, which is a great tool that you can use to dial in your fueling and hydration needs for training and racing with incredible precision. If you want to pick up some product for yourself, use the code TMS22 when you check out at precisionfuelandhydration.com and save 15% off your first order.
